Swindon Town Football Club has announced Danny Rose into the role of Youth Development Phase Lead Coach, taking over from Lewis Ward, who has departed the club.
Rose, a familiar face at SN1, played a pivotal role in the team’s promotion to League One during the 2019/20 campaign.
The 35-year-old midfielder boasts a diverse playing career with clubs such as Manchester United, Newport County, Fleetwood Town, and Portsmouth. Now transitioning into coaching, Rose previously served as Assistant Manager at former club Darlington and even took on the role of caretaker manager for a period.
Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Rose said, “Delighted to this week to start as @officialstfc Lead YDP Coach. This is a fantastic academy doing amazing work, and I’m so grateful to be a part of it.”
In his new role, Rose will contribute to the development of Swindon’s academy hopefuls, working with academy manager Alex Pike, lead foundation phase coach Ryan Elliott, and lead professional development phase coach Sean Wood.
Pike shared the news on social media, introducing Rose and highlighting his focus on overseeing the 13-16 age group programme. Rose’s extensive professional career, spanning over 400 games in football and national leagues, includes stints at Newport County, Portsmouth, and Swindon, where he played a crucial role in the title-winning 2019/20 season.
Expressing enthusiasm for Rose’s addition to the Academy team, Pike remarked, “We are hugely enthusiastic about the addition of Danny to our Academy team and excited for him to get started.”
The transition sees Lewis Ward move on from his coaching role, while Nathan remains a part of the education team in the Academy. Pike extended gratitude to both for their contributions to the 13-16s’ development in the first half of the season.
