A well-known shoplifter in Swindon has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting to nearly twenty thefts from stores across the town.
Steven Lloyd, 48, of no fixed address, appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 13 August where he pleaded guilty to 19 separate counts of shop theft.
The offences took place between February and July this year, mainly targeting shops in the North Swindon area. Goods stolen ranged from alcohol and bathroom items to pet food.
Lloyd was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to complete a 26-day accredited programme, as well as up to 10 days of rehabilitation activity.
Speaking after the hearing, PC Matthew Richter said: “Lloyd is a prolific offender with numerous theft convictions. Criminals like Lloyd can have a devastating impact on businesses and the wider community, which is why swift and effective action is essential. Shoplifting is a priority for Swindon’s neighbourhood teams, and we continue to urge everyone to report any incidents they witness so that action like this can be taken.”
Police have reminded residents that any ongoing crime should be reported immediately via 999. Other non-urgent matters can be reported by calling 101 or through the Wiltshire Police website.
