Covid-19 infections are rising throughout England, according to the latest figures the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
2.1 million people tested positive in the week upto March 5th which equates to around one in 25 people, a number last seen in the middle of February.
This number is an increase of around 200,000 cases from the previous week.
Dr Harries, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) Chief Executive warned the pandemic is “not over” saying: “These data confirm that cases have declined substantially following the peak of the Omicron wave.
“However, the increasing presence of the BA.2 sub-lineage of Omicron and the recent slight increase in infections in those over 55 show that the pandemic is not over and that we can expect to see Covid circulating at high levels.”
