Council receive £25m from the Government to regenerate Fleming Way

Swindon Borough Council have received £25m from the Government to regenerate Fleming Way into a new Bus Boulevard and gateway into the town centre.
Over the next four years, Fleming Way will be completely transformed improving the experience for bus users and pedestrians, as well as visitors to the town centre.
Plans include a new public open space on the north side, and a green spine down the centre of the road increasing biodiversity. The current bus station will be removed once the new bus interchange is completed meaning all national and local buses will use Fleming Way instead.
The underpass below Fleming Way connecting the existing bus station to the town centre will also be removed.
Over the next 12 months, a temporary bus station will be built within the Kimmerfields site and John Street multi-storey car park off Fleming Way will be demolished.
Work on the Bus Boulevard scheme is expected to start next winter.
A Swindon Borough Council spokesperson said “External investments are a huge boost to the town and show how Swindon is bouncing back from COVID-19.”
