Coronavirus: pubs, restaurants, gyms and cinemas ordered to close ASAP

Boris Johnson has today issued an update on his social isolation plans announced earlier in the week.

Cafes, bars, clubs and restaurants are to close tonight “as soon as they reasonably can and not to open tomorrow.”

“We’re going to defeat this disease with a huge national effort to slow the spread by reducing unnecessary social contact,” confirmed the Prime Minister.

“If you’re planning on going out tonight, please don’t,” he continued, “you may think that you’re invincible, but there’s no guarantee that you will get mild symptoms, and you can still be a carrier of the disease and pass it on to others.”

The move is a massive ramping up of social distancing measures and it is unclear how long it will last for but will be updated on a monthly basis.

Restaurants will still be able to offer takeaway and delivery services, and supermarkets, pharmacies, and other essential services network will remain open
