Closure order following drugs activity at address in Walcot

Wiltshire Police have successfully gained another partial closure order for a Swindon address as part of our operation to close down county lines drugs gangs.

The order was sought for the address in the Walcot area and was granted by Swindon Magistrates Court yesterday.

The order, which will remain in place for up to three months, has been put in place to safeguard the occupant who is a victim of cuckooing.

The partial closure order will limit those who are allowed to enter the property and will be regularly checked by local officers.  Anyone not named on the order attempting to enter the property could be committing an offence and may be arrested.

Sgt Richard Fay said: “Closure orders like this help us to protect the resident, and prevent drugs gangs entering the property and exploiting vulnerable people; these orders are extremely effective ways of preventing crime associated with an address as well as protecting the resident, who is very often vulnerable, from being cuckooed.

“In relation to this order, we will continue to work with partner agencies, including Swindon Borough Council, to come up with a long term solution to the problem.

“If you have concerns that a neighbour or someone in your street is involved in drug dealing or is being cuckooed, please call us on 101 or report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
