One of Britain’s oldest shoe shops, Clarks, has announced they are closing the Swindon Town Centre store.
Last year Clarks closed a number of stores after a rescue deal, led by Hong Kong-based private equity firm LionRock Capital, was agreed.
A spokesperson for Clarks confirmed the closure saying “At Clarks, we regularly review our store portfolio to ensure each of our stores meets our customers’ needs as well as our business requirements. After careful consideration, we can confirm that our store in Swindon Town Centre will be closing.
“We have a strong duty of care to our employees and will ensure they are fully supported as they now go through a period of consultation.”
The store at the Designer Outlet in Rodbourne is unaffected and will remain open once lockdown restrictions are lifted.
