Citizens Advice Swindon is looking for volunteers to join its team

Citizens Advice Swindon currently has around 70 volunteers but it is looking to recruit more from all kinds of backgrounds so that they can continue to support local people help deal with their problems.

The independent organisation is known for providing free, confidential, and impartial advice and is currently seeing a rise in enquiries from residents needing help manage the sharp rise in food, energy and fuel prices.

The charity also campaigns on big issues that affect people’s lives as part of the Citizens Advice network across England and Wales.

Volunteers might choose to donate their time for a variety of reasons and this position might be of interest to students; people getting back into work after career breaks; people with part-time jobs; carers; and those who have retired.

The role might suit someone who is looking to build up their skills, work experience or who is simply interested in making a difference in their local community.

With a minimum commitment of 6 hours in a week, you might have to offer advice to people in person, online or over the phone.

Helen Basu, Trainee Officer for Citizens Advice Swindon, explained why volunteers are so crucial: “Volunteers are the heartbeat of Swindon’s Citizens Advice.
“Without them we couldn’t offer the service to our community. With the cost of living crisis affecting everyone we are keen to recruit volunteers more than ever to help with the increased demand.”
