Christmas candle appeal to help Ukrainians through the cold dark months of winter in Ukraine

The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership (SHAP) have announced a post Christmas initiative that will hopefully appeal to all locals keen to do something to help and support families living through a freezing winter in Ukraine.

Whilst many of us will celebrate Christmas with candles-on the dining room table, in the lounge and on the fireplace, Ukrainians are forced to turn to candles as a necessity with a lot of Ukrainians living without electricity, light, heat and even water in some places, living with just 3 to 4 hours of electricity each day.

SHAP board member Zoreslava is appealing to Swindonians to not throw any left over candles away instead “Please bring them along to our aid drop off point at The Community Centre , Christ Church in Old Town Swindon.”

SHAP will then collect every last one and with the help of an army of volunteers aim to make hundreds of new candles in Swindon, transporting them out to Ukraine in the new year to help the tenacious and resilient Ukrainian people get through an unimaginably tough few months .

Zoreslava said “It is so important that the tragedy of the Russian aggression in my country remains in the headlines.

“At the same time we want to link Christmas celebrations with the urgent need for candles to provide basic light during the cold dark months of winter in Ukraine.

“I am sure that wonderful local people will respond enthusiastically and I thank them in advance for their kindness”

If you have any candles you want to donate please drop them at The Community Centre , Christ Church in Old Town.
