Charities and community organisations across Swindon and Wiltshire are being invited to apply for a major new funding opportunity — a £60,000 Outdoor Learning Leader Grant from the national educational charity, The Ernest Cook Trust.
The grant, spread over three years at £20,000 per year, aims to help fund a dedicated Outdoor Learning Leader — someone who can inspire young people and their communities to spend more time outside, explore nature, and develop a lasting connection with the world around them.
This round of funding is open to non-profit organisations in Leicestershire, Cumbria/Lancashire, and Gloucestershire/Swindon/Wiltshire/Bath/Bristol — areas where the Trust already has land or established outdoor learning projects.
“We know that inspirational role models are key to helping young people form lasting connections with the natural environment,” explained Suzie Paton, Director of Learning, Grants & Partnerships at The Ernest Cook Trust.
“That’s why we’re supporting organisations that encourage children and teenagers to engage with and enjoy the outdoors.”
Since the scheme began in 2020, the Trust has funded dozens of similar roles across the UK, investing more than £1.8 million into outdoor education. Successful applicants will also become part of a national network of Outdoor Learning Leaders, providing opportunities to share experiences, exchange ideas, and learn from one another.
The grant is open to charitable and non-profit organisations, particularly those working with young people from disadvantaged or underserved backgrounds.
Applications must be submitted by Friday 31 October 2025.
