Celebrate The Wondrous Worlds of Roald Dahl at Longleat This Christmas

The Festival of Light is returning to Longleat this Christmas after a two-year absence with an all-new outdoor spectacular showcasing ‘The Wondrous Worlds of Roald Dahl’.

Launching on November 5th and running on selected dates throughout the festive holidays until January 8th, this year’s fantastical festival is the biggest and most ambitious to date with more than 800 individual lanterns, set in over 30 acres of ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped grounds.

Working in partnership with The Roald Dahl Story Company, a team of designers from Longleat is creating a series of stunning, illuminated scenes bringing magical childhood favourites spectacularly to life.

Embark on a fantastical journey and meet much-loved characters from the Roald Dahl stories. Each lantern scene will bring key moments from the iconic books to life, from The BFG, to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Matilda, The Twits and Fantastic Mr Fox.

Marvel at the five-metre-tall BFG and walk through Wonka’s famous factory gates, just make sure you don’t fall into the chocolate river like Augustus Gloop! Be amazed by James’ Giant Peach, find yourself awestruck by George’s Marvellous Medicine and be sure not to miss Matilda and Miss Honey.

“After an absence of two years due to covid, we are delighted to be able to officially announce the phizz-whizzing theme for The Festival of Light 2022,” said Kevin Ashley, Longleat’s Head of Marketing.

“Roald Dahl’s stories are part of everyone’s childhood and to have the opportunity to bring them to life here at Longleat is so exciting.

“Our team of designers is hard at work transforming all the iconic characters into lantern form and creating what is certain to be our most ambitious festival ever.

“With such an extraordinary cast of characters, and at a time when we all need a little bit of magic to look forward to, we’re determined to make something truly remarkable this year,” he added.

The festive fun continues with Longleat’s famous 15-metre Enchanted Christmas Tree show and the much-loved Santa Train.

Tickets are due to go on sale in July and will also include access to all the popular animal and adventure attractions, including the Winter Safari Drive-through, Jungle Kingdom, Jungle Cruise and Longleat Hedge Maze.
