CCTV appeal after Poppy Appeal tin stolen from McDonalds

Wiltshire Police have released CCTV images of two people that they would like to speak to after a Royal British Legion charity collection box was stolen in Swindon.

The Poppy Appeal tin was taken from the McDonalds in Great Western Way at around 6.50am on Saturday 2 November 2019.

A man and a woman were seen to unhook the tin from its chain and conceal it before leaving the restaurant.

PC Steve Yeates, from Swindon Police, said: “Over the past few days we have seen how strongly the general public feel about the importance of honouring those who have lost their lives during service to their country.

“So this theft is a deplorable crime – not only have the suspects stolen money from a good cause, but they have also shown shocking disrespect to everything the Poppy Appeal represents.

“We know people will recognise the man and woman pictured, so would urge the public to help us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should call PC Yeates on 101, quoting crime reference 54190111267. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

  1. If as it states ” A man and a woman were seen to unhook the tin from its chain and conceal it before leaving the restaurant”. Why weren’t they stopped before they left the shop, or was it only on CCTV they were seen????? Were those who saw it part of the ones stealing it, makes you wonder???
