A suspected cannabis factory has been uncovered in Moredon, Swindon, after police responded to reports of a possible burglary earlier this week.
Officers were called to a property in Windrush Road at around 5.40pm on 16 September, following concerns the vacant house had been broken into.
Upon entering, they discovered around 100 cannabis plants growing across three separate rooms.
A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and taken to Gablecross custody for questioning. He has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
The property was cordoned off while the electricity board attended to make the scene safe.
Police praise vigilant residents
Duty Response Inspector Blake Kennedy said:
“This incident is a prime example of the importance of being vigilant in your own neighbourhood and reporting any concerns about suspicious activity.
Regular comings and goings, unusual noises at night and distinctive smells are all potential signs that criminality may be taking place.
I am grateful to those neighbours who alerted us, which enabled us to safely dismantle the set-up and make an arrest.”
Wiltshire Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to call 101, quoting reference 54250125708, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
