Business energy bills to be capped from October 1st

Liz Truss has this morning announced that energy bills for businesses will be capped from October 1st to ensure ‘businesses have security through the winter’.

The six-month multi-billion pound scheme sees a cut to the wholesale price of 50% a move expected to limit the cost to £211 per MWh for electricity and £75 per MWh for gas.

Shops and independent local pubs will be among a smaller number of businesses who will receive longer-term help.

Making the announcement today the Prime Minister said: “We know that businesses are very concerned about the level of their energy bills.

“That’s why we are putting in place a scheme for business that will be equivalent to the scheme for households to make sure that businesses are able to get through the winter.

“We’re going to review it after six months. We’ll make sure that the most vulnerable businesses like pubs, like shops, continue to be supported after that.”
