One of a collection of small villages clustered around a 3-kilometre shoreline promenade, Bugibba is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malta. Whilst perhaps not the first choice for those looking to bask in the island’s culture and history, it does make an ideal base for those looking to combine comfort and a fairly relaxing nightlife whilst exploring the island. Perfect for a holiday with the whole family.
What To See
Whilst Bugibba makes for a fantastic place to stay, to fully explore the area, you must be prepared to venture outside the area. That said, the majestic St Paul’s Bay and the nearby village of Qawra are within easy walking distance.
What the region is best known for are the bays and islands which make this stretch of the coastline so popular. The small islands of Gozo and Comino are only a short boat ride away, both of which are as popular with the locals as they are visiting tourists. For the more adventurous, Comino, named after the cumin which grows there, is also a great place for camping or spending a day hiking across the island. The island is so plentiful in wild herbs and flowers that it is classified as a wildlife sanctuary.
Also nearby is a classic car museum, The Quattro Water Park for the kids, a local cinema and The Malta National Aquarium, which is a restaurant and play area, so you can make a visit here a fully rounded family day out.
Where To Stay
Bigibba has no shortage of hotels to choose from, catering for all budgets and tastes. One of the most popular is the db San Antonio Hotel + Spa, a modern building decorated in Moorish style, which is both large and luxurious. Those on more modest budgets might opt for cheaper accommodation such as the Shamrock Apartments or The Park Lane Aparthotel in nearby Qawra, both of which combine modern furnishings and comfort with gorgeous views and easy seafront access.
There is also no shortage of Airbnb options in Bugibba.
Food and Nightlife
Nightlife in Bugibba is fairly relaxed, mostly in the form of bars and pubs found around the main square. If you are looking for something more vibrant, there are several beach party venues and nightclubs found along this coastline stretch.
The Amazonia lido at the Dolmen Hotel is great for a drink and a snack whilst sunbathing by the pool. Fat Harry’s in the main square has a distinctly English feel to it with great beers and pub-style food, and if you don’t want to miss the sport whilst on holiday, then Rookie’s Sports Bar shows all the live games, so you won’t miss a thing.
