Budget: No increase in the cost of a pint at your local

The Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, has announced a ‘Brexit pubs guarantee’ that will result in the duty on draught products in pubs being up to 11p lower than the duty in supermarkets starting from August.

Mr. Hunt stated that he would ‘substantially increase the generosity of draught relief,’ which he claimed was not feasible while the UK was part of the EU.

During his speech in Parliament, he declared to MPs, ‘From August 1, the duty on draught products in pubs will be up to 11p lower than the duty in supermarkets, a differential we will maintain as part of a new Brexit pubs guarantee.’

I’m not sure where he drinks but I would avoid that pub as he went on to say, ‘British ale may be warm, but the duty on a pint is frozen.’
