Budget: £200 million more set aside to fix potholes across the country

The Government’s Potholes Fund will be increased to £700 million in the 2023/24 financial year with the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt confirming he is adding a further £200 million to fix potholes across the country.

The Treasury had already allocated £500 million for the UK’s pothole fund, but councils in England are due for a massive influx with the cost of repairing all pothole-plagued local roads in England and Wales estimated at £12.6 billion.

Mr Hunt said the “wet then cold winter” resulted in him receiving “strong representations” from MPs and councillors about “the curse of potholes”.
