Brits rush to book holidays under roadmap out of lockdown

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his road map plans to return life in the UK back to some level of normal, travel companies have announced a surge in bookings.

EasyJet reported a 337% rise in flight bookings and a 630% jump in holiday bookings for locations such as Alicante, Malaga, Palma, Faro and Crete for August, followed by July and then September.

Tui said that they had had their best day of bookings in over a month, with strong interest in Greece, Spain and Turkey for the summer.

Thomas Cook said traffic to its website increased by more than 100% after Mr Johnson started speaking, with bookings “flooding in” for Greece, Cyprus, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

In the road map released yesterday, if all is going well with the governments tests then Step Three – May 17th at the earliest – is the first date at which foreign travel can resume.
