Wales & West Utilities will be closing Bridge End Road for up to two months as it begins upgrading the gas pipe in the area.
Bridge End Road and Gipsy Lane will be closed between Swindon Road and Cirencester Way with a diversion in place along Drakes Way and then down County Road to the Great Western Way.
Mick Gallavin from Wales &West is managing the work. He said: “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Swindon area.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“This work will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future.”
