Boris Johnson has this afternoon urged for patience as he prepares to set out the roadmap for lifting lockdown restrictions next week.
The message came in the latest Downing Street press conference where the Prime Minister praising the “astonishing effort” of the vaccination programme.
“This is an unprecedented national achievement, but it’s no moment to relax. And in fact, it’s the moment to accelerate because the threat from this virus remains very real,” he says.
“Next week I’ll be setting out a road map saying as much as we possibly can about the route to normality and even though some things are very uncertain because we want this lockdown to be the last and we want progress to be cautious, but also irreversible,” he continued.
Despite the achievement in hitting the first target in the UK’s vaccination programme, Mr Johnson took the opportunity to remind everyone that infections still remain high pointing out there are still more people in hospital now than there were during the first peak in April.
