The Orchards Rise development at The Orchards in Wichelstowe by David Wilson Homes has experienced an increase in sales demand, with ten reservations made in the past month.
A significant portion, more than 60%, of these recent sales were to first-time buyers, with three properties being purchased by individuals from Surrey and Reading, reflecting the trend of increased house sales in certain West Country areas due to the rise in remote work.
Reports from the BBC indicate that buyers are moving away from major cities in search of better value for their money, with locations like Swindon becoming popular choices. In fact, property search website Zoopla have revealed that Swindon accounts for 30% of all searches for properties outside of London.
Louise Ware, Sales Director at Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, expressed enthusiasm for the interest generated by their Wichelstowe development, saying “There has been a terrific amount of interest in our Wichelstowe development which has resulted in a boom in sales.
“There’s also been a spike in people visiting the development who don’t come from the local area and who realise the value they can get in Swindon – if they’re on a city salary but relocate they can get better value for money, more space, access to the countryside and still enjoy good commuter links if they need to travel for work.
“Wichelstowe has fast carved out a reputation as one of the most desirable postcodes in Swindon as people seek out energy efficient homes in thriving new communities that are well connected yet in reach of open space and all the benefits that brings.”
The three-bedroom homes at Orchards Rise are currently priced from £345,000, which is below the average price of properties coming to market in Britain, reported by Rightmove as £366,000 in March. The four-bedroom homes are priced from £410,000.
The development also offers the Key Worker incentive, providing a deposit contribution of £1,000 for every £20,000 spent. Key Workers from various sectors such as the NHS, education, police, fire services, MOD, prison and probation services, local authorities, and Highways England are eligible for this assistance.
The Wichelstowe development is a collaboration between Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, and Swindon Borough Council. Over the next 20 years, it will deliver 3,000 new homes, along with new schools and community facilities. Spread across a 250-hectare site on Swindon’s southern edge, the development will encompass vast open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing fields, and allotments.
Orchards Rise offers a variety of two, three, four, and five-bedroom homes. Residents can enjoy 12km of nature trails, play areas, 200 acres of open space, and walks along the Wilts and Berks Canal. Within a 15-minute walk, residents have access to M&S, Waitrose, PureGym, The Hall and Woodhouse restaurant, and a range of schools for children of all ages.
Conveniently, Junction 16 of the M4 and Swindon train station are both within a ten-minute drive, providing easy access to Bristol and London.
