Police were called to Yelland Walk, East Wichel, Swindon this morning following a report from a member of the public that a body had been found in the canal.
Emergency services attended the scene and it has been confirmed that a body has been recovered from the water.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, police believe the deceased to be a woman in her 80s from Swindon.
Her next of kin has been informed and will be supported by specialist trained officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
Initial enquiries have been carried out and there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
