A Wiltshire-based housebuilder has extended a helping hand to one of the region’s most vital charities, supporting local families living through the unimaginable.
Barratt Homes Bristol has donated £1,500 to Julia’s House, the children’s hospice charity serving families in Wiltshire and Dorset who care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
This funding comes at a critical time, with care demands rising and costs mounting. Julia’s House – which operates a purpose-built hospice in Devizes – offers much more than just end-of-life care. Through a team of specialist nurses and carers, the charity delivers holistic support to families under immense emotional and practical pressure, often for years at a time.
Whether it’s home-based respite care, emergency support, or play therapy to bring comfort during dark times, the Julia’s House team is there – and all without charging families a penny.
Jo Common, Business Development and Corporate Fundraiser for the charity, said:
“All our care costs are rising, and we’re seeing more families needing our help. This generous donation from Barratt Homes makes a real difference – without this kind of support, we simply couldn’t continue to offer the lifeline care so many local families rely on.”
Established over two decades ago by paediatric nurse Julia Perks, the charity was born from a stark recognition that children’s palliative care in the region was severely lacking. Since then, Julia’s House has grown into a beacon of hope – offering tailored care at home, in the community and at hospice centres.
The £1,500 donation is enough to fund three nurse-led care sessions in a family’s home – giving parents the chance to sleep, spend time with siblings, or simply breathe, safe in the knowledge their child is being cared for by trained professionals.
Andrea Pilgrim, sales director for Barratt Homes Bristol, explained the motivation behind the gift:
“We’re proud to support Julia’s House. The work they do is about more than care – it’s about dignity, peace of mind and love, delivered in the hardest of circumstances.
“As housebuilders, we’re invested in the communities we’re part of, and this partnership is a reminder that real support begins beyond the bricks and mortar.”
The support from Barratt will also go towards funding essential care equipment, visits from nurses, and therapeutic play sessions that provide children with comfort and moments of joy.
