Barratt David Wilson Homes Extends Key Worker Scheme in Swindon

Barratt Homes and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West have announced an extension of their deposit contribution scheme, now including key workers such as foster carers.

Originally launched in 2022 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the National Health Service, the scheme aims to assist key workers in purchasing new homes by contributing towards their deposits.

Workers across various sectors including Education, Police Force, Fire Service, Ministry of Defence, Environmental Service, National Highways, Transport Scotland & Transport for Wales, Probation Service, Local Authority, and Prison Service have already benefited from the initiative, amounting to approximately £34 million supporting over 2,000 key workers nationwide.

Under the scheme, eligible key workers receive a deposit contribution of £1,000 for every £20,000 of the home’s purchase price. For instance, on a home priced at £325,000, key workers would qualify for a contribution of £16,250. In addition to the deposit contribution, Barratt Homes also offers flooring up to 1% of the home’s value.

Andrea Pilgrim, sales director for Barratt Homes Bristol, expressed pride in the initiative, stating, “Initiatives like our Key Worker Deposit Contribution scheme are our commitment to supporting deserving individuals who serve our communities tirelessly.”

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, highlighted the scheme’s impact, saying, “Our Key Worker Deposit Contribution Scheme has already helped over 2,000 buyers secure energy-efficient homes. We’re pleased to extend this support to include RNLI employees and foster carers who contribute selflessly to society.”

Dave Nicoll, Fundraising Partnership Lead at the RNLI, welcomed the partnership, noting, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Barratt David Wilson Homes to offer RNLI employees and volunteers the opportunity to own their homes.”

Barratt Homes Bristol and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, in collaboration with Swindon Borough Council, are actively developing Wichelstowe, one of the region’s most ambitious new developments.

Over the next two decades, Wichelstowe will introduce 3,000 new homes, alongside schools and community amenities, across its 250-hectare site on Swindon’s southern edge.
