The High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Martin Nye, has presented a cheque for £3,752.95 to Society Without Abuse (SWA), Swindon’s domestic abuse charity, following the success of this year’s Annual High Sheriff’s Concert.
The concert, hosted by the High Sheriff on behalf of Rotary Swindon Cares, the fundraising arm of the Rotary Club of Swindon, featured a lively performance from Swindon’s Swing Birds at Christ Church in Old Town. Funds were raised through ticket sales and generous donations on the evening.
Martin Nye said:
“It was a pleasure to host the annual High Sheriff’s concert and raise important funds for SWA. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age or background, and it’s vital to support victims and survivors while also focusing on education and prevention to break the cycle of abuse.”
Richard Deacon, President of the Rotary Club of Swindon, added:
“The Rotary Club supports many charities across Swindon, and we’re thankful to the High Sheriff for hosting this event. The funds raised will help support those affected by domestic abuse and aid SWA’s vital education work in schools and colleges.”
Accepting the cheque on behalf of the charity, Kate Rowland, CEO of SWA, said:
“The High Sheriff’s concert is always a highlight, bringing together music, fun and community spirit. The funds raised will go directly to our work in ending domestic abuse through education, prevention and early intervention. With one in four people expected to experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, our focus remains on supporting survivors and educating young people about healthy relationships.”
