Anger over crowds in Swindon parks ‘warned’ to go home

‘Sick of them just getting warnings – fines need to be issued’

Swindonian readers want to fine all of those ignoring the government guidance on groups gathering and are ‘appalled’ to see people gathering in a Swindon park despite the coronavirus lockdown.

Swindon police reported yesterday that along with two smaller groups, ‘a group consisting of 16 persons, both adults and children were also given warnings and directed to return home’ from gathering in St Marks Park.

Police are reminding people to remember that the original lock down rules still remain in place and have not been relaxed.

‘Until the government formally announces any changes we urge people to be responsible and stay home to continue protecting themselves, others and the NHS.’

People should only leave their home if they have a reasonable excuse, which means:

  • Exercise – alone, or with members of your household
  • Shopping for basic necessities
  • Any medical need, or providing care for a vulnerable person
  • Travel to or from work, but only when you cannot work from home
