Nearly nine in 10 people aged 70 and over in the Swindon clinical commissioning group area have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.
Across the Bath, North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG, 199,627 vaccines have been delivered to people aged over 70, older care home residents, care home workers, frontline health and social care workers and the clinically extremely vulnerable.
So far, more than 93 per cent of local people over the age of 80, as well as more than 93 per cent of local people aged between 75 and 79, have been vaccinated.
This is on top of 100 per cent of care homes in the region being visited along with around 6,000 housebound patients by mobile vaccinators from Wiltshire Health and Care, Virgin Community Care and Medvivo which means that nearly all of the most vulnerable people in our communities have now been protected.
87% of the population of priority groups 1-4 received at least first jab made up of:
93% of over 80’s
93% of 75-79-year-olds
82% 70-74-year-olds
There have also been 32,101 health and social care workers vaccinated
Of this number 192,123 are first vaccinations and 7,504 are second doses.
Any person aged 70 or over who has yet to be invited to receive the vaccine can now book their own vaccination appointment either online at www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or over the phone by calling 119.
Gill May, Director of Nursing and Quality of the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG said: “We have come an incredibly long way in a very short space of time, and nothing showcases this progress more than our activity during last weekend, when we vaccinated more than 10,000 people.
“This drive and determination, which has been unwavering over the last two months, is what will get us to where we need to be, and I’m pleased to say that we are well on our way to meeting our target of giving all people in the top four priority groups their first vaccine dose by the middle of this month.
“Of course, there is still a long way to go, and while it is important we recognise our milestones, we must always think about our next steps, which at the moment is how we begin vaccinating those people in priority groups five and six, while also starting second doses.
“For now, however, we all must continue to follow the latest government guidance on hand washing, social distancing and mask wearing, as these steps will ultimately keep us safe while vaccines are being rolled out.”
