There is some speculation in the national press that both Swindon and Wiltshire could enter Tier 3 restrictions following tomorrow’s government review.
Although there is a five day period of the rules being relaxed, if you for a bubble, Swindonians could still see restrictions change for at least the next two weeks which could throw off plans over the festive period.
With Swindon and Wiltshire currently in Tier 2, you are still able to meet up with friends outdoors using the rule of six, pubs and bars are also allowed to stay open for customers eating a substantial meal with alcoholic beverages.
If Swindon were to fall into Tier 3, dine-in hospitality would have to close, serving takeaway only and meeting with other households would be forbidden, with some exceptions including parks, beaches, and allotments.
The rules until December 23rd
Any changes made to the Tier system tomorrow will come into effect on Saturday December 19th, meaning there will be just four days of the new restrictions before the Christmas window kicks in next week.
For this four day period, you must follow the restrictions for whichever Tier you are placed in tomorrow.
For those who may find themselves in Tier 3, this means you cannot mix with other households indoors or outdoors.
Delivery and takeaway will also be the only option if you’re not up for cooking, with dine-in hospitality closing.
What about the five-day Christmas window?
From December 23rd to December 27th, you may choose to form a Christmas bubble with up to three other households.
The government and local authorities are requesting that people don’t form bubbles during this five-day window if they don’t need to, in a move that is hoped will slow the spread of the virus.
If you opt to form a three-household bubble, you are able to socialise together in private homes, to attend places of worship, or meet in a public outdoor place.
This relaxation of the rules will not apply to other indoor spaces like pubs, restaurants, and shops.
If you do form a Christmas bubble, you should not meet socially with friends and family you do not live with in your home or garden – unless they are part of this bubble.
What happens from December 28th?
The next tier review (after tomorrow), is due on December 30th. This means that from December 28th you must return to following all local tier restrictions as normal.
Christmas bubbles will no longer apply, and for those in Tier 2 or 3 there will be no indoor mixing outside of your household or support bubble.
