Akers Way reconstruction update

Work is continuing on Akers Way and the road remains closed between St Mary’s Church and Cheney Manor Industrial Estate to enable the contractor to continue with phase one of the works. The diversion route during this phase is via Cheney Manor Industrial Estate Road, Darby Close and Cheney Manor Road. There will be no access to Akers Way from the residential section of Cheney Manor Road including Harvey Grove, Brooklands Avenue and Manor Gardens.

Last week we announced an additional three weeks were required to complete phase one of the project. This is due to the discovery of additional repairs to the concrete slab which require extra curing time for the concrete.

The new kerb line has been completed for the layby extension and the south side of the carriageway is now ready for the final surfacing layer.

Your Holiday Starts Now

This week the contractor has been concentrating on the northern section of the carriageway with some deeper excavations of the concrete and the laying of the base material, these works will continue into next week.

The scheme is split into a number of phases with specific traffic management arrangements for each phase of works. The next phase of works will close the first 200m section at the roundabout with Purton Road.  The diversion routes will be clearly signed in both directions for the duration of the works and advanced notification signs for the next phase will be in place two weeks prior to the start of the work.

During the works there may be some congestion, so we would urge motorists to allow extra time for their journeys through this area.
