All residents in England and Wales will be asked to take part, and for the first time ever, the survey will primarily be run online with an expectation that 75% will be completed this way. Paper questionnaires will also be available if requested.

This year’s survey will include a new question of armed forces veterans and also voluntary sections on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Results will be available within 12 months, although personal records will be locked away for 100 years, kept safe for future generations.
