200,000 Ukrianian refugees will be eligible to come to the UK under an expanded route allowing people to bring family members in, Boris Johnson has announced.
During a visit to Poland Mr Johnson said: “We stand ready, clearly, to take Ukrainian refugees in our own country, working with you, in considerable numbers, as we always have done and always will.
“What we are going to do is we are extending the family scheme so that actually very considerable numbers would be eligible … you could be talking about a couple of hundred thousand, maybe more.
Announcing the increase from the original 100,000 figure, Mr Johnson also pledged a scheme to allow British companies and individuals to sponsor visas for Ukrainians to come to the UK saying: “Additionally, we are going to have a humanitarian scheme and then a scheme by which UK companies and citizens can sponsor individual Ukrainians to come to the UK.”
Exact details of who will be eligible for the new scheme are expected to be set out by Home Secretary Priti Patel in the Commons later today.
