In typical Swindonian fashion, many Facebookers chose to showcase their wit and humour by playfully mentioning the ever-present “roadworks,” “potholes,” and even the “M4 out” as their most cherished achievements.

However, amid the jest, there was a notable appreciation for the town’s iconic Railway Works and the unique Magic Roundabout also garnered significant praise, reflecting the town’s proud heritage.

Other intriguing responses included accolades for Swindon’s famous personalities, such as Diana Dors, Billie Piper, and XTC.

The town’s role as an inspiration for the NHS also did not go unnoticed by our readers, additionally, the Gallagher brothers finding inspiration in Swindon, naming their band after our cherished, albeit currently closed, leisure centre also received a number of mentions.

Sporting achievements took the spotlight. Claire Rebecca Pearson fondly recalled Swindon Town reaching the Premier League in 1993/94, where they notably drew with Manchester United (and Liverpool whilst also taking four points off Tottenham Hotspur). Building on the sporting theme, Helen Osborne celebrated the Swindon Robins speedway team’s victorious double win in 2019.

Swindonians’ collective pride and fondness for their town’s diverse accomplishments highlights the sense of community and joy that defines Swindon whilst also shining a light on the many repetitive negative ‘I think I’m funny’ individuals that have nothing good to say about the town in which they live.
