One in twelve Brits are taking part in Dry January

One in twelve Brits are taking part in Dry January this year and with pubs closed this should be easier than normal to stick to, surely?

New YouGov figures show that three out of every ten taking part in Dry January have already had a drink only a week into the challenge.

In total it appears around 8% of Britons are attempting to stay sober for the whole of January which, taking the 28% of the UK who are teetotal into account, means 11% of people who do drink are participating in Dry January.

Drinkers aged 25 to 49 are the most likely to join the annual dryathon in at 14%, with those that drink aged 50-64-year-olds least likely to participate at just 9%.

72% of people taking part have managed to stay off the booze for the first week of the year but nearly three out of every ten have consumed alcohol only a week into January.
