Young actors needed for major Swindon Arts Centre production

Swindon’s two professional theatre companies have announced the relaunch of opportunities for young talent with a major new production.

“When This Is Over” is a UK-wide project putting young people centre stage and Prime Theatre and Swindon Theatres are giving local creatives the chance to star in their own show. The resulting production will be premiered at Swindon Arts Centre in 2022 and is open to all young people aged 7 to 25 years without audition.

Mark Powell, Artistic Director of Prime Theatre explained, “As soon as lockdown happened last year, all our youth programmes went online. We’re now thrilled to be creating a specially made physical production. A brand-new script will share the experiences and dreams of the many young actors who are hungry to be back on stage.”

Laura James, Director of Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre and Arts Centre added, “When I heard about this national project we just knew we had to bring it Swindon. We’ve really missed having young creatives and their energy in our venues. Here’s a chance for them to rehearse at the Wyvern and to perform at the Arts Centre, double the experience. We can’t wait to see what they come up with.”

“When This Is Over” will be made by a wide range of young creatives, actors, writers, designers, and technicians. Starting in November, the cast will create material in Prime Theatre’s weekly workshops and shape these together as a larger company in a series of rehearsals.

The final production will be at the centre of the Swindon Arts Centre programme in February 2022. Swindon Theatres and Prime Theatre are supported by Arts Council England and Swindon Borough Council to provide free access for many young people.
