Alan Fletcher, famously known as Dr. Karl Kennedy from the popular Australian soap opera “Neighbours,” is set to bring his highly anticipated tour, “The Doctor Will See You Now,” to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre next month.
As a beloved character on the long-running show, Fletcher’s portrayal of the iconic doctor has captivated audiences worldwide and this tour promises an engaging and entertaining experience, showcasing Fletcher’s multifaceted talents as a musician, actor, and storyteller.
In an exclusive interview with The Swindonian, Fletcher talks about the tour, getting back to filming in Australia, and his love of touring
How excited are you to get back on the road again in the UK after the excitement of the celebration tour?
The Dr Karl tour show is so exciting to do because it incorporates music, an amazing array of video clips, and fun questions. Plus, I get to do the show with my wife Jennifer which just heightens the experience.
Have you made any changes to The Doctor Will See You Now after the last time you toured it?
I have made a lot of changes. Several segments have been dropped in favour of doing a deeper dive into the Kennedy family and the big love stories. I have also added in 3 of my new Americana songs and a revamped version of I’ve Got a Crush on Susie K.
How do you and Jen decide what to talk about from the many years that you have played Karl?
We worked our way through Karl and Susan’s timeline and highlighted key moments. Apart from that we chose to highlight quirky moments in Neighbours, the fun stuff that will easily have slipped people’s minds
Now that you are back on the show and filming as Karl Kennedy again, can fans expect to hear any teases about what might be in store for him?
Well, I can’t disclose any stories, but I will be able to relate how the experience of working on the New Neighbours has been so far.
What do you enjoy most about touring?
Interacting with the fans of the show and playing live. It is so wonderful to get out of the studio and experience the immediacy of a live show.
How much does it mean to get to meet the Neighbours fans, especially now given their vocally active role in getting the show revived by Amazon Freevee?
Like the Celebration Tour, the Dr Karl tour will be one of gratitude. I will be passing on the sincerest gratitude from all cast and crew to fans for the part they played in saving Neighbours
The Doctor Will See You Now will be heading to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on Tuesday 6th June 2023. Tickets can be booked online.
