Darkroom Theatre Company are returning to the Post Modern Gallery tonight with their latest production:
“When John takes a break from his boyfriend, he accidentally meets the girl of his dreams. Filled with guilt and indecision, he decides there is only one way to straighten this out…“
Written by Mike Bartlett – award-winning dramatist and scribe of the smash-hit BBC Drama ‘Doctor Foster’ – “Cock” is a playful and candid look at one man’s sexuality and the difficulties that arise when you realise you have a choice.
Emily Jane Sheppard, director of the play, said:
“I found the play after searching for a good female monologue for some auditions I was doing last year. I fell in love with the format of the play, and the way that it grappled with the often abstract concepts of identity, labels and choice.
The way it approaches sexuality as maybe more fluid than commonly acknowledged still rings true a decade after the play’s inception in a time of constant debates about self identification and non binary.
What really excited me is the way the play jumps back and forth between time and place and between the characters, the fact that every scene starts in the middle of something and the whole thing is very naturalistic. The way the drama just unfolds like real life kept me intrigued and pushed me to choose this as my directorial debut.”
Darkroom Theatre Company present “Cock” at the Postmodern Gallery on the 2nd and 3rd August and is licensed by Nick Hern Books (Age guide of 14+)
