Ten of Swindon’s most promising young dancers will share the stage with a nationally acclaimed contemporary dance company next week in a thought-provoking performance exploring the impact of austerity on mental health.
The performers, from Swindon Dance CAT and Swindon Youth Dance Company, will appear alongside the award-winning Caitlin Barnett Company in Even the Devil Has Demons at Swindon Dance on Saturday, 1 August at 4pm.
The production follows an intensive three-day rehearsal programme, during which the young dancers have worked directly with professional performers before stepping onto the stage as integral members of the cast.
Blending contemporary and commercial dance, Even the Devil Has Demons examines themes of inequality, isolation and emotional wellbeing. Through dynamic choreography, the production explores the lasting effects of austerity on mental health, encouraging audiences to reflect on the importance of resilience, connection and community.
The work also considers the wider social impact of privilege and inequality, tracing how emotional pressures can filter through different layers of society and influence the lives of individuals and communities.
