The My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad festival returned to the Old Town Bowl this wet weekend raising money for Prospect Hospice in memory of The Victoria’s former landlord Dave Young, who died in June 2021 at Prospect Hospice after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Amidst the heavy rain showers on Saturday, hundreds of Swindonians gathered to enjoy the bands performing in the Town Gardens’ iconic Bowl while the bandstand hosted acoustic sets throughout the afternoon.
One of the festival’s highlights was the performance of Swindon’s very own “Splat the Rat,” a talented five-piece folk-oriented band. Their melodious compositions, featuring guitars, violin, mandolin, bass, and percussion, were further embellished by their exceptional vocal harmonies, leaving the audience wanting more.
However, stealing the spotlight and capturing the hearts of all present was the enigmatic headliners “Kova me Badd,” who have been described as either the best or worst band one could ever witness in their lifetime. Their performance finished off the event in style.
Not just confined to the main stage, the festival also showcased some incredible acts at the bandstand, providing entertainment even for the wet dog walkers in the park. Among them was Swindon’s very own singer-songwriter, Jol Rose, who enchanted the audience with his soulful renditions of Americana, folk, and blues classics.
Master of slide guitar, Jim Blair, graced the stage with his mesmerising Roots, Blues, and Funk music, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.
Local vocal coach and talented singer-songwriter, Jules Hill, contributed to the musical extravaganza with her enchanting folk-pop songs, serenading the audience with her soulful voice.
The My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival not only brought joy and entertainment to the people of Swindon who came out and braved the conditions but it also contributed to an important local cause, Prospect Hospice, whilst also remembering a man that worked tirelessly to promote local music throughout the town.
