To celebrate the beginning of the new look Spring Festival, here is just a taster of the sort of events you will find right on your doorstep.
Right at the end of the Festival is an evening of Dance, Acrobatics and Circus Theatre. Comedic, life-affirming and tender, these four performances in one event – From the Top, Ding, One Lump or Two(as pictured above; click for the trailer), and Karla’s Story– have been curated by us in cahoots with the prestigious Swindon Dance. To see dancers and acrobats at the top of their game, make sure you’re there.
On Monday 13th May there is a relationships double bill. Comedian Rosie Wilby asks, Is Monogamy Dead?while award-winning writer, Catherine Gray, talks about The Unexpected Joy of Being Single.
The following day, author Heather Widdows ponders the Perfect Me. In this Instagram world, what does beauty mean? Where does this idea of perfection come from and what’s it all for?
And what about doing nothing at all? Is working not working? Does the Devil make work for idle hands or is boredom the petri dish of creativity? Author of Not Working: why we have to stop, Josh Cohen, shares his less-than-idle thoughts with us on 17th May.
But sometimes it’s good to do, to get up off our chair, away from the computer, phone (electronic etc) and this email and create something with our minds and bodies – and with this in mind they have workshops for all ages.
Want to write? Join author Elizabeth St Johnon 16th May to write adventure, romance and dark deeds using historic heroes and villians.
Want to act? Township Theatre encourages you to create a performance based on the speeches of Nelson Mandela, on 8th May. Join Gatecrash Theatre on 19th May for their improvisation workshop – a chance for silly fun, think games for grown ups.
Want to move?Learn acrobatics with Jacob Hi-Ho and Darine Flanagan on 19th May.
Want a soap box to share your own ideas, the more controversial the better? Take part in their unique Think Slam on 17th May.
