Prime Theatre is excited to be partnering LAMDA, one of the countries leading drama schools, to provide free professional training in theatre arts for anyone aged 15+ who are be interested in pursuing a career in the performing arts.
Over the next six months LAMDA will run a series of workshops in Swindon in a range of areas, including movement, audition technique and technical theatre.
Laura Jasper, Associate Director at Prime Theatre said, “It is great that Prime Theatre have unlocked this funding to provide professional training for Swindon’s Young People, thanks to Swindon Borough Council support, it really is a wonderful opportunity for Swindon. Young people are less likely to go into the arts due to several factors, but this partnership eliminates financial and logistical restrictions that they otherwise may face.”
This partnership has already proven successful. On 18 Jan LAMDA funded travel for ten young people to travel to London to take part in a day of workshops with other participants from around the country.
Georgia Scott, 17 who attended the workshop said “I’m glad I got to come here. I have a few auditions coming up, so it’s given me the confidence to be myself and go for it.”
LAMDA are also striving to make Drama School accessible for all. This year they have reduced audition fees and aim to eliminate them completely. By taking part in this programme, Prime young people are eligible to have this fee waivered.
Prime Theatre will be working with secondary schools and colleges in Swindon to promote this opportunity to students who might be interested in seeking post 18+ drama training. Workshops are hosted by Prime Theatre and led by LAMDA tutors.
