World-renowned violinist Nigel Kennedy will perform in Swindon this summer as part of his first large-scale UK tour in more than 15 years.
The celebrated musician will bring his “Virtuoso” tour to the Wyvern Theatre on Tuesday 16 June, promising a night of extraordinary musicianship and genre-defying music.
Described by The Guardian as “one of the most important violinists Britain has ever produced,” Kennedy is known for his energetic performances and his unique approach to classical and contemporary music.
A Unique Musical Collaboration
For the tour, Kennedy will perform alongside long-time collaborators including double bassist Alec Dankworth, son of jazz legend John Dankworth and singer Cleo Laine, as well as acclaimed cellist Peter Adams.
The performance will reflect Kennedy’s long-standing belief in breaking down musical boundaries, combining classical repertoire with jazz and other influences.
From Child Prodigy to Global Star
Kennedy’s musical talent emerged early. At just seven years old he won a scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School, founded by legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin.
At the age of 13 he was introduced to jazz violin icon Stéphane Grappelli, beginning a lifelong connection with jazz music. The pair later performed together at venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
Record-Breaking Classical Success
Kennedy became an international star with his groundbreaking 1989 recording of The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, which went on to become one of the best-selling classical albums of all time.
His distinctive, genre-crossing style has earned praise from artists across the music world, including Robert Plant and Kate Bush.
