The following evening, Sunday, 12 July, the spotlight turns to theatre with an open-air production of The Great Gatsby.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel, the production transports audiences to the glamour and excess of the Roaring Twenties, promising an evening of romance, drama and spectacle beneath the summer sky.

Families planning a visit can also take advantage of the Great British Summer Savings promotion, with discounted family tickets available for selected performances throughout the season.

The programme continues the following weekend when Terry Chambers, the original drummer with Swindon band XTC, returns to the Town Gardens Bowl for the first time in 50 years.

Performing with EXTC and Friends on Saturday, 18 July, the anniversary concert is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s programme and a special occasion for fans of one of the town’s most celebrated musical exports.

Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or low-backed chairs and settle in for an evening of entertainment in one of Swindon’s best-loved outdoor venues.

Tickets for all performances are available through the South Swindon Parish Council ticket website.
