The Hester family headed off to the Wyvern Theatre for their yearly trip to see the pantomime and this year were looking forward to Sleeping Beauty. Kate Hester shares with us her review.
I don’t think I’m giving too many spoilers away by saying, the story of Sleeping Beauty is a tale of Princess Rose, who when cursed by the evil fairy, falls into a deep sleep that can only be broken by true loves kiss (in this case Prince Dickie!).

The cast were amazing, with Michelle Collins (Eastenders, Coronation Street, Real Woman) playing the evil fairy Carabosse (Booooo!),Chris Jarvis (CBeebies) playing Happy Harry (Hi Harry!) and Matthew Rixon as the hilarious ad-libbing and fantastically attired panto dame Nanny Nutkins (or is it Nutmeg, or Nutcase?!?).
The characters took us through their wonderful fairy tale world with lots of local reference jokes, naughty innuendo and an excellent song choice from current chart hits to classic numbers that you will recognise.

My favourite of them all was the alternative version of 12 days of Christmas! Who knew 5 toilet rolls could unite a theatre?! A real treat for us big kids and little kids alike.
Sleeping Beauty is running at the Wyvern until 5th January, and there are still seats available – surprisingly! You would be a fool to miss this Pantomime – oh yes you would!
