BAFTA award-winning writer and producer turned poet, Henry Normal, is embarking on a UK tour for 2023, and he’s not doing it alone. Joining him on stage is none other than comedy legend Nigel Planer.
Commencing in September 2023, Henry Normal is making a triumphant return to the stage alongside Nigel Planer, rekindling a partnership that first delighted audiences in the early 90s. Their show will light up Devizes Assembly Hall on 3rd November.
Henry Normal boasts a career spanning over four decades, marked by his contributions to some of the nation’s most beloved and critically acclaimed TV programmes and films. In this new series of shows, he will present a rich tapestry of fresh material drawn from his latest collections, including “Collected Poems Volumes 1 and 2,” as well as the recently unveiled “Vol 3.” With ten previous poetry collections to his name, Henry is also set to make a return to BBC Radio 4 in December with his latest offering, “A Normal Journey,” the 11th installment in his ongoing BBC Radio 4 series.
True to his distinctive style, Henry’s show promises to uncover amusement in the everyday, laughter in the commonplace, and sentiment in the challenges of contemporary life. It’s a performance that delves into the realms of love, life, and family, delivering moments of both profound emotion and uproarious humour.
Henry will be sharing the stage with the esteemed British actor, writer, and musician, Nigel Planer, for an unforgettable 13-show run during their Autumn tour. Nigel, best known for his iconic roles as Neil in the BBC’s 1980s classic “The Young Ones” and Ralph Filthy in “Filthy Rich & Catflap,” is bringing his equally prolific poetic talent into the spotlight. His poetry has graced the pages of The Guardian and numerous anthologies, as well as his 1997 collection, “Unlike the Buddha.” Nigel has consolidated his years of poetic endeavors into a single volume titled “Making Other Plans.”
Nigel’s poetic finesse is set to complement Henry’s warm, humorous, and distinctive show, creating a truly exceptional opportunity to witness two of the most captivating voices in spoken word, back to back.
