Co-organiser Emily Eavis officially opened the gates for Glastonbury Festival 2023, welcoming enthusiastic festival-goers who are set to camp out in Somerset for the next week.
Thousands of campers are expected to descend upon the 900-acre site in Pilton, where world-class music acts, captivating speeches by politicians, film screenings, theatre performances, and circus spectacles will grace stages from Wednesday to Sunday.
The main stage on Friday will feature a mystery band named “The Churnups,” speculated to be the renowned rock band Foo Fighters, who are set to perform before Arctic Monkeys take the coveted headline spot on the Pyramid Stage, marking their third time leading the festival, having previously done so in 2007 and 2013. However, their performance is in question following the cancellation of their Dublin show due to frontman Alex Turner’s acute laryngitis.
Saturday night will be dominated by US rockers Guns N’ Roses, featuring the original lineup of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan, who reunited in 2015. Lizzo will precede them on the stage, sharing joint headline billing.
Sir Elton John’s headline performance on Sunday night is anticipated to draw massive crowds as it signifies the culmination of his scheduled farewell tour dates in the UK. The teatime legends slot on Sunday afternoon will showcase Yusuf/Cat Stevens, followed by classic rock icons Blondie.
Organisers have issued a reminder to festival-goers about prohibited items, including disposable vapes that harm the environment and pose risks at waste centers. Gazebos, non-biodegradable body glitter, disposable wipes, knives, and glass items are also on the list of items not to bring this year.
Glastonbury 2023 promises to be an unforgettable experience, celebrating music, art, and a vibrant community, setting the stage for a remarkable five-day extravaganza.
