Families looking to fill February half-term with something creative — and cost-free — will find plenty to enjoy at the Wyvern Theatre later this month.
The popular Family Fun Day returns on Saturday 21 February, bringing a full programme of free activities designed to keep children entertained while giving grown-ups an excuse to join in too.
Across the theatre, visitors will find craft stations, face painting and circus skills sessions running throughout the day. Pitstop Parties will be on hand to help youngsters transform into superheroes, animals or favourite characters, while drop-in circus workshops promise spinning plates, balancing acts and plenty of laughter.
Story and rhyme sessions delivered by the National Literacy Trust will add a quieter corner to the day, encouraging children to discover books and storytelling in an informal setting.
For those curious about what happens beyond the curtain, backstage tours will offer a glimpse into areas normally off-limits to audiences. Budding performers — and inquisitive parents — will be able to see where sets are stored, how productions are prepared and what it takes to bring a live show to the stage.
Younger explorers can also follow the Dinosaur Fact Trail, leading families around the theatre with prehistoric discoveries dotted along the way.
This year’s event will also feature Prime Youth Theatre and CAN Studios, who will run a series of free dance and drama workshops aimed at inspiring confidence and creativity. Spaces for these sessions are limited and must be booked in advance.
The Family Fun Day has become a regular fixture in the Wyvern’s calendar, offering an accessible way for families to explore the theatre, try new activities and spend time together during the school break.
Advance booking is required for workshops and backstage tours via the Wyvern Theatre website.
