Fit for the King: Lawn Manor Academy Artwork Honours King Charles III

Three exceptional portraits, created by pupils from Lawn Manor Academy, are set to be presented to King Charles III as part of a competition commemorating his Coronation.

The portraits, crafted by Year 8 pupil Ayesha and Year 9 student Keona, were selected for the royal tribute after being submitted for the Coronation-themed house art competition.

The school encouraged students from all year groups to showcase their creativity by producing artwork inspired by this momentous event. Out of the numerous submissions received, eight outstanding pieces were shortlisted, including various portraits, drawings of a crown, a Hama bead coaster, and a poem presented on a scroll.

Ayesha’s entry is a captivating series of portraits depicting King Charles III at different stages of his life, beginning from his childhood and highlighting significant moments in his journey. Initially sketched in pencil, she was also inspired to submit a vibrant and striking color version of her artwork. Both versions will be sent to Buckingham Palace.

Keona, who previously won the International Women’s Day art competition, presented a striking portrait of King Charles III on his Coronation Day, featuring an impeccably detailed St Edward’s Crown, one of the Crown Jewels’ cherished symbols.

Head of Art, Caireen Young, said: “We received over 600 entries for this competition and the top eight were chosen for their creativity and detail.  We looked at all of the entries from the King’s perspective and then chose Ayesha’s and Keona’s to send to him as the best of the best and excellent pieces that we think he would appreciate.

“All of the students did really well in the competition and the two overall winners showed drawing skills that surpassed what they learn in class and even techniques that they wouldn’t learn until later on in school.  However, these competitions aren’t just for the artists but encourage pupils to be creative in whichever medium they feel most confident in.  Some pupils are really good at making things, some at drawing and some at creative writing and our shortlisted winners all demonstrate these talents.

“We’ve previously run similar competitions and sent the winning artwork to the late Queen.  We received a lovely letter back from her ladies in waiting and so all of the pupils were eager to take part again and look forward to receiving a response from the Palace.”

The other shortlisted winners were Clayton, Esther, and Amelia from Year 7, Scarlett and Oliver from Year 8, and Patrick and Summer from Year 9. Pupils from Year 10, namely Veeda, Aasiya, and Phoebe, also made it to the esteemed list of winners.
