Royston Vasey, famously known as Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown, is scheduled to perform at Swindon’s MECA on Thursday, October 19th.
Labelled as ‘The World’s Most Outrageous Comedian,’ those easily offended are advised to refrain from attending, as the content may be provocative and ticket holders must be 18 years or older.
Recognised for his controversial humor, flamboyant attire, and iconic aviator hat, Roy has encountered several cancellations over the past 12 months after venues, who originally booked the comic, decided his show was racist, sexist and homophobic.
Just last year he found himself unable to reschedule a gig in Cheltenham due to it not meeting the venue’s ‘policy requirements of inclusion as it was considered that the content material of this performance could cause offence.’

Born as Royston Vasey in Grangetown, Teesside, Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown, aged 76, has made a name for himself in the comedy world.
In a recent interview, he shared stories of a challenging upbringing, leaving school without qualifications, and experiencing homelessness. It was through comedy that his perspective on life transformed, as he revealed to the publication.
Speaking with the BBC, Brown discussed his transition towards more provocative and controversial comedy, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms.
Gaining notoriety, he was branded Britain’s ‘rudest comedian’ by a Channel 4 program. Audiences were consistently shocked by his material, often accompanied by his trademark ensemble of a helmet, goggles, and clown-like attire.
- In the 1970’s, he appeared on Opportunity Knocks, coming fourth in his heat. The competition that year was won by a spoon player.
- Royston Vasey was used by the League of Gentlemen as the name for their fictional location. In the second series, ‘Chubby’ made a cameo appearance as the town mayor.
- In his 2007 book, A National Joke, gay academic Andy Medhurst claimed that Chubby Brown was the ‘most important comedian of the past 25 years’.
