Film lovers in Swindon will have the chance to catch one of Britain’s most talked-about independent films later this month when The Ballad of Wallis Island arrives at the Arts Centre.
The award-winning comedy-drama will be screened on Wednesday 27 May at the venue on Devizes Road, with tickets starting from just £5 for members of Swindon Film.
Non-members can also attend for £7, with organisers describing the screening as an opportunity to see one of the year’s standout British releases at an affordable price.
Starring Tom Basden, Carey Mulligan and Tim Key, the film tells the story of a long-separated folk duo persuaded to reunite for a private performance by an eccentric wealthy fan on a remote Welsh island.
Since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January last year, the film has attracted praise from critics and cinema audiences alike, with many describing it as a distinctly British gem.
The screening has been arranged by Swindon Film with support from the Wyvern Theatre and Swindon Arts Centre as an additional presentation alongside the group’s regular programme.
Doors open at 7.15pm, with wine, soft drinks and nibbles available before the film begins promptly at 7.45pm.
