Robert Buckland recognises NHS heroes

In July 2018, the NHS will celebrate its 70th birthday. Working with a wide range of partners, NHS England and NHS Improvement will mark the milestone in a variety of ways.

As a key part of this activity, the NHS70 Parliamentary Awards has been established to engage MPs in celebrating 70 years of the NHS, identifying and highlighting innovative and high-quality care across every constituency in England, and thanking staff for their dedication, hard work and commitment by recognising and honouring their achievements. The NHS70 Parliamentary Awards provides an excellent opportunity for health and care organisations to engage with their local MPs, tell them about the work  they do, and build or strengthen ongoing relationships.

The NHS70 Parliamentary Awards were launched by Dr Sarah Wollaston MP, Chair of the Commons Health Select Committee, in Parliament on Wednesday 7th February and nominations for the Awards closed on Friday 23 March.

Local and regional NHS England and Improvement teams have now chosen one team or individual in each category to go forward to the national shortlist, where they will be assessed by a high-level national judging panel. The winners, as selected by this panel, will be announced at an awards ceremony in Parliament on Wednesday 4th July – the day before the NHS’ 70th birthday.

To mark this occasion, South Swindon MP Robert Buckland will be visiting local health and care workers he has nominated for national awards on Tuesday 31stJuly.

Robert Buckland is one of the many MPs across England to nominate NHS staff he believes have made a major difference to local health and care services in the local area.

Over the past 70 years, the NHS has provided vital health care across the UK, this could not have been achieved without health and care nurses who devote their time to caring for others.

In order to show recognition for their hard work, Robert Buckland will be awarding the NHS70 Parliamentary Awards for the following roles:

  • The Excellence in Cancer Care Award
  • The Care and Compassion Award
  • The Patient and Public Involvement Award
  • The Lifetime Achievement Award
